Making a silk purse out of a sow's ear 

(i.e., reworking an old print that you don't like and making a new one that you like better)

Take the old print and add to it somehow with additional printing or add some carving to the old block to make it better.  The overall object being to make a new print using an old block - either recut or combined with something else.
