August meeting - Gelli demo

The Lino Ladies are meeting again!

At our August get-together, Cindy demonstrated printing with a Gelli plate. She brought extra gelli plates, lots of ink, and materials for making texture on the prints, such as leaves, fibers, textured surfaces, and more.

It was a fascinating process. The possibilities are amazing. She showed how she can make a textured background by pressing something lacy onto the plate, then either printing over it, or removing it and printing with the ink that remained on the plate. With the Gelli plates, she could make “ghost” prints: the first print is over a mask, the mask is then removed, and then another “ghost” print is made, giving the outlines that were left around the mask. We all played around with the process, experimenting with layers of colors and textures.

We made a mess, and a lot of scrap prints, but had a wonderful afternoon. Thank you, Cindy!
